Breitling Navitimer Father's Day Lead Article.png

Breitling Navitimer Chronograph

A historical icon is just one way to describe the Breitling Navitimer. An idea crafted in 1952, Willy Breitling developed a wrist-worn chronograph with a circular slide rule that would allow pilots to perform all necessary flight calculations. It was a revolutionary concept and, two years later, the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (OAPA) announced the design as their official timepiece. The Breitling Navitimer was born and has been worn by airline captains and enthusiast alike ever since.

In 2022, Breitling honored the legend with the introduction of the new Navitimer that captures its most classic features, while enhancing them with modern refinements. The circular slide rule, baton indexes, and trio of chronograph counters whisk us back to the 1950s, whereas the flattened slide rule and domed crystal create the illusion of a more compact profile and transport us to the modern 21st century.

Simply, if your father is looking for a piece of historical excellence to sit on his wrist, the Breitling Navitimer is a sure to delight him. Coming in a range of sizes – 46, 43, or 41mm – and a choice of straps, the Navitimer is as aesthetically pleasing as it is practical.

This 40.50 mm model, inspired by the legendary 1957 original, features a stainless steel case and a burgundy dial with rhodium-plated hour markers and ‘Broad Arrow’ hands - all featuring white Super-LumiNova. There is a date window at 6 o’clock, a small seconds subdial at 9 o’clock, and 12-hour and 60-minute chronograph recorders on the subdial at 3 o’clock.

If your father has an air of adventure about him, the OMEGA Speedmaster would be the perfect fit for any adrenaline-fueled expedition of his.

TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 300 Orange Diver

Bold in aesthetics, robust in design: The TAG Heuer Orange Diver was unveiled at Watches and Wonders 2022 and has already made a name for itself in the horology world. Inspired by the historic model from 1979, the timepiece boasts a bright orange dial and a versatile 43mm steel case. The unmissable timepiece is water resistant up to 300m, and, thanks to the orange hue, the bright tones of the dial provide maximum contrast against the blue of the water. The steel bracelet of this Aquaracer is equipped with a high-quality buckle and safety features, meaning the TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 300 Orange Diver is life-proof. A Father’s Day gift to last.

Truly, this is a timepiece suitable for those bold enough to stand out from the crowd.

Tudor Black Bay Pro

Think Tudor, think Black Bay. The collection has become a firm watch enthusiast favorite, and it’s not difficult to understand why: the collection is a delectable, yet subtle, blend of traditional aesthetics and contemporary watchmaking. The fix steel bezel features 24hr graduations and is complemented by a black dial, whilst the date function sits neatly at the 3 o’clock hour marker.

At a smaller 39mm case size, the Tudor Black Bay is an elegant, everyday option. Specifically, as a true GMT, this timepiece would be great company for any frequent flyer.

Grand Seiko Sport

2002 saw the creation of Grand Seiko's first GMT watch. It was a technical development that received immediate acclaim and, ever since, has featured in a range of Grand Seiko creations of very different styles. In 2022, Grand Seiko have released the newest Grand Seiko Sport to honor and commemorate the 20th anniversary of the original.

Inspired from the wintery snowscapes of the mountains that surround the studio where they are made, in Shinshu, central Japan, the watches are as rugged as the Hotaka mountains. The dial captures the rough texture of the snow that can be seen high in the mountains in late winter and early spring, when strong winds carve unique patterns as they whip across the snow surface whilst the blue accents on the dial echo the bright blue color of the winter sky in Shinshu.

It's a handsome sports watch, that’s for sure, and a rather large one at that: coming in at a 44mm case size, the timepiece is robust and has a water resistance of up to 200 meters. The Spring Drive 9R16 – a movement not found in the original - powers the watch, combining a conventional mainspring with an electric regulator and resulting in a smooth gliding seconds hand with an increased accuracy of +/-10 seconds per month.
