In our latest episode of our Calibre Podcast, our CEO Brian Duffy interviews Andrea Nunziata, Brand Director of OMEGA and Managing Director of the Swatch Group (UK). They discuss his career history and his role at the company, as well as some of the most exciting releases and technical developments from OMEGA in 2020, and beyond.

OMEGA released several new timepieces last year and celebrated a momentous occasion with an exclusive design. 2020 marked 50 years since the Apollo 13 mission, something that OMEGA was proud to be a part of, with their timepieces playing an integral part in the success of the mission. On October 5th 1970, OMEGA was presented with NASA’s “Silver Snoopy Award” and the sterling silver lapel pin is a prized reminder of OMEGA’s history in space exploration, and especially the major role it played in the “successful failure” of Apollo 13.

Exactly 50 years later, a special timepiece was created in the occasion’s honour in the form of the new Speedmaster. Combining animation with watchmaking art, this incredible Snoopy tribute has taken the OMEGA Speedmaster to new realms of design.

That wasn’t all for this Swiss luxury watch brand, with a partnership collaboration with competitive racing brand Alinghi. The dynamic partnership between the two brought the very best of Swiss precision, innovation and pioneering spirit together. In tribute to this unique sailing collaboration, a brand new OMEGA timepiece was launched. The Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon Alinghi is a watch that demonstrates the same values and qualities that both partners share.

To round off 2020 nicely, OMEGA revealed their new Constellation men’s collection, a range met with resounding success. OMEGA’s Constellation collection has been a linchpin for the luxury timepiece brand since 1952. The Constellation quickly became a popular piece for the brand, and has long been a symbol of exquisite precision, sophisticated style, and the very highest of standards. The new Constellation models released this season are an homage to both their heritage, and the accuracy the watch offered.

Early January 2021 saw the launch of the new OMEGA Speedmaster Moonwatch. This much anticipated launch from the Swiss watchmaker has been inspired by the 4th generation Moonwatch, worn on the moon by the astronauts of the infamous Apollo 11 in 1969 and commonly known as the ST 105.012. For devotees of the Moonwatch, this exciting new launch presents an opportunity to see this esteemed timepiece commence a new chapter in its marked history. There have been significant updates in this new model, but they still pay homage to its predecessor in its design detailing.

Another release is the OMEGA Seamaster Plante Ocean America’s Cup Edition. A celebration of the 36th America’s Cup presented by Prada, contested by Emirates Team New Zealand in 2021, the timepiece pays tribute to OMEGA’s role as Official Timekeeper and draws inspiration from the colours of the event’s logo: an impression of the Auld Mug in red, white and blue.

Of course, 2021 will also see the repromotion of the new Bond watch, as the film was pushed from November 2019. The OMEGA Seamaster Diver 300M 007-Edition timepiece is identical to 007’s watch in No Time To Die and is every bit as sophisticated as you would expect the spy to wear.
