DOXA is a relatively new brand to us here at the Watches of Switzerland Group but it has certainly made an impact. With their bright and bold timepieces, they provide a splash of colour and a point of difference within a watch collection and Geneva Watch Days sees the brand release one of their most colourful yet.

Forty years ago, we saw the brand launch their SUB 600T. The aesthetics were typical of the era with its angular lines and distinct characteristics, but the functionality in its patented unidirectional rotating bezel, highly legible dial and the ability to plummet into the Ocean ensured it was high on many a diver’s wishlist.

For 2021, they have revisited the model and released an upgraded tribute version, designed with a robust brushed titanium case and ceramic bezel inlay, as well as boasting many impressive internal features. The shade of the watch is a beautifully rich blue, matched to the colour of the Pacific Ocean, with small orange accents. The piece will run as a limited edition, with only 200 numbered pieces being released, making it a highly sought after model for those who have a keen interest in diving, sport and luxury watches.

We speak to our Junior Buyer, Sophie Conroy about her thoughts on the new DOXA.

In your own words, tell us about the DOXA Sub 600T Pacific Limited Edition and the history of the piece?

DOXA has deep roots in diving watch history, with its first diver’s watch being released in 1967 in Basel. By the late 70s, these were hugely popular with professional divers thanks to most pieces having no decompression limit, unidirectional rotating bezels and high legibility whilst diving.

With a relaunch in 2019, we’ve seen some fantastic releases from the brand and with the launch of a new family and utilising a different case material, the latest Sub 600T Limited edition doesn’t disappoint. DOXA has teamed up with Time + Tide for a DOXA first!

What makes this piece so special in your opinion?

Available only in Pacific Blue colour, the Sub 600T is a new family for the brand and is limited to 200pcs globally. The case is a striking, more angular shape, that alludes to an 80s retro vibe that has been reinterpreted from DOXA’s 80s archive.

Using a new case material for DOXA, the piece comes on a 40mm titanium brushed case, rubber strap and titanium hardware \(of course, something not always found with pieces on with titanium cases\). It’s also water-resistant to 60bar.

The colours are bright and bold and synonymous with what we’ve seen recently from DOXA. What is your take on bright coloured timepieces? Who do you think this timepiece will appeal to?

Colour pop is a key trend this year for the watch industry with many pieces utilising solid colour blocking in primary colours- taking colour all the way through dial and strap, which we also see here.

The Sub 600T once again holds onto its roots with its use of ‘DOXA Orange’ in its highlights. And more strikingly, the cobalt blue creates a colourway that can’t be missed. This is perfect for those who like a statement piece and will sit well in any watch enthusiasts collection if they enjoy pops of colour!

In terms of reimagining designs of the past like DOXA has with this piece, why do you think this is so appealing to customers?

This latest Limited Edition is undoubtedly super cool and its retro vibes allow us to reminisce of a time in the 80s where the brand expanded beyond the 300T into the 600T. This revival makes sure that none of the high-performance diving specifications is lost along the way. I think for most, nostalgia plays a part in the attractiveness of a timepiece like this, and one that reminds them of a time gone by.
